This is misleading. I lost 50lbs, so far, eating at a calorie deficit. I happen to be eating a standard keto diet because it works for me. There’s nothing stopping a vegan or high carb person from doing the same. Eating a certain way won’t do anything if you’re eating too much.

Correct. Eat healthier and smaller portions and exercise more in frequency and intensity until you start to lose the weight. Then keep that regimen up.
