It appears to have identified ham and cheese as "mixed fruits" in the top image.

Hey, no objections here. I'm all for being light-responsive myself. But it might be a tough sell.

So... we just need to start genetically modifying humans to express light sensitive proteins?

I loved The Inverted World and then immediately got distracted and never read anything else of his. This article has revamped my enthusiasm.

This makes me nostalgic for the time I lived in Newfoundland. Though only slightly.

Thanks for your reply! I am always really interested in the sort of research that bridges fields.

How does one get into the two fields of theoretical physics and computational biology? Are there interesting relationships between the two? Does your research in one area benefit greatly from your knowledge in the other?

My SO's parents live in Oakville, which looks just like the picture above. It actually has some nice running trails weaving through it, but you can't walk anywhere. You have to drive like 10 kms just to get to the nearest coffee shop. So I can see how these places are conducive to obesity.

Around here, if you want a house + yard, living in the suburbs is cheaper (mortgage-wise at least, who know what extra you spend on gas and therapy). But if you just want a place to live, then the city is cheaper because you can get an apartment or little condo.

The trend I see is that they're all very sleek looking, not busy. And I heartily approve.

I read a thing (and wrote a very small article about it) just the other day saying that it's possible that the benefits conferred by low-calorie diets are actually due to protein restriction — not calories over all. I really want to believe this is true.

I'm not going to be impressed until the appropriate layers are liquid or solid.

Vacationing in Paris: the one constant in an ever-changing world.

Ha! Just watched that one last night. Still hilarious. Also the one where George's line gets crossed with Donna Chang's. And then Jerry and Estelle are both disappointed that she's not Chinese.

The Owens gorge is far from scenic, though I hear it's better now than it was in the 70s. If you're a hiker, it's probably not worth a stop, but it's a pretty nice playground for climbers.

Indeed. As a rock climber, I was already mourning the loss of Skaha, BC and Smith Rock in Oregon, but Yosemite and Bishop and Owens River Gorge too? No way.

I cannot support a map that doesn't give the Sierra Nevadas to Ecotopia! Other than that, I'm on board with this.

I really like your accidental placement of that apostrophe. Because now I'm thinking of the planet Mars as being the home of some alien named Mar. And I prefer it that way.

This is my second try too. Last time I had it from the library and 3 weeks was not nearly enough time to do it justice. I will have to check out The Broom of the System. Until now I had only read his Harper's articles, which are all great.
