Based on the trailer, I think this is the Toy Story world’s equivalent of the 20teens live-action reboot of the 1990's Buzz Lightyear cartoon. Like, Andy is taking his 2 year old to see this for sure.

Gunn is another good example as Guardians of the Galaxy working had a lot to do with him.

my criticism isn’t so much of the character itself, but of the fact that they made a spin off from a character whose primary contribution should have been something interesting but was incredibly straightforward

the film was well received on release and having by chance rewatched it last week it still holds up - the soundtrack and vignettes with side characters being the strongest points. i think the usual internet revisionism has seen its standing fall, between emile hirschs behaviour and a general cynicism towards white

There’s a pocket community on the internet that is ardent in its belief that comics from the 1970's were awesome and the films should be more faithful to the source material. I read those comics, though, and most of them were nearly unreadable. If, as a director or screenwriter, you go back to that material and

Ragnarok, yeah, but I didn’t see anything particularly specific about the direction of Black Panther.

Never really liked the Eternals in the comics. The most interesting stuff about them was the people above them pulling the strings, which is why I’m excited about this. The implications of the larger MCU as a result of this are pretty exciting. I know that's a stupid take, considering most Marvel movies only advance

Well a bunch of points in response:

“not being charismatic?”

I couldn’t even finish Army of Dead - soulless crap, IMO (sorry if someone really liked it, it probably isn’t bad but I wasn’t in the mood for “just fine” at that time).

I didn’t think any of the Green Lanterns were, but I can’t be sure.

After four years of Trump are you surprised people think this way?

that movie would have been great if it was 1995. or heck, even 2003.

Happiest Season was such a frustrating movie. Stewart was great in it, but IMO Davis’ character was irredeemably awful for what she put her girlfriend through. The film didn’t do the work necessary to make me believe that Stewart’s character would take her back. Definitely should’ve just ended up with Plaza’s

No I honestly think the studio refused to greenlight part 2 ahead of the release of part one in case it’s a bomb. So it’s not even guaranteed that the director or full cast will come back (although it’s probably highly likely). I bet Villeneuve has some drafts but no paid-for preproduction work is going on. WB really

And we also can hardly wait to watch it on your phone over your shoulder with no sound on an airplane, also as Villeneuve and Lynch intended!

I can hardly wait to watch this on my phone as Villeneuve intended!

I already got my copy of Dune off the Internet.

He’s been doing stage work. He starred in Betrayal on both the West End and Broadway in 2019. And then, you know, a pandemic mostly shut down live theater.

Directors, actors, musicians and so forth who fuck with the media and audience by just saying shit about what work they may or may not do and not following through with any of it should be considered a blessing, not a curse. People who get worked up about Sufjan Stevens never releasing Delaware or Tarantino not
