That was official Societ policy for a while, as they had ideas on how to remake society and eliminate the family unit and a fuckton of war orphans to test them on. I wonder if anyone’s ever gone back to review all the findings.

One issue is that orphanages often serve as community child cares, and the administrators will often not quibble with the adopting couple’s selection to get their money. This is exacerbated by the real orphans often obviously being the most challenging children because malnutrition can cause developmental disorders.

What about Neo Yokio?

It’s actually because the name of the country is based around “America,” much like how people from the People’s Republic of China are known as “Chinese.”

Or if people had outright said “this has happened to literally everyone at one point or another. At one point, I was replaced by a Skrull who was replaced by a clone, who was turned... evil-er? by mind control.”

Don’t forget Black Bolt, Black Adam, and Black Canary.

Eh, Nazi-themed porn was huge in Israel, especially for the generation directly following the shoah. Psychologists have build tenures around trying to unravel that particular trend.

For example, Israelis, particularly in the 1950's.

I saw furries and otherkin used as punching bagslines long before the idea of trans entering mainstream conversation (not including crossdressing, which is obviously its own thing), for what it’s worth. I’d be somewhat interested to see a somewhat formal study of the chronology.

Having watched a few episodes, I both do and don’t get the fandom. I missed out on high holidays with the family, so my mom’s soup is the fixation this year.

I really, really want to hit a clown with those.

It’s a southern regional specialty that blacks brought north. Most other people treat it like Italian dishes: somewhat familiar but kept in its own foreign food menu ghetto.

It took me a bit to realize that the whole orange wasn’t for everyone.

What the hell are you people doing eating berry pies in November? Berries are summer fruit, served at the Fourth of July and, if they’re early, High Holidays.

One big thing to add to your imagining of the potluc is that every region and subculture has its own menu that it considers traditional, so somebody will be there insisting that cod liver cake is a cannonical part of Thanksgiving while your turkey is a new-agey interloper.

As far as I can tell, “chutney” is what foodies have decided is the most accurate thing to call preserves that aren’t just sweet. If there’s less sugar or some spicy or savoury additives, it’s chutney. As cranberries naturally push back against sugar, they tend to bear the brunt of this nomenclature.

5. “Jesus ate them. And I’m not Christian enough yet to eat what Jesus ate.”
