Having watched a few episodes, I both do and don’t get the fandom. The show is undeniably well crafted, but one big part of its craftsmanship is how well it bases itself around issues relevant to its target demographic. There is literally nothing for you if you aren’t the right age and likely gender.

82% of black boys lose their virginity as minors, so I think it’s safe to just assume it for most.

I missed out on high holidays with the family, so my mom’s soup is the fixation this year.

I really, really want to hit a clown with those.

It’s a southern regional specialty that blacks brought north. Most other people treat it like Italian dishes: somewhat familiar but kept in its own foreign food menu ghetto.

It took me a bit to realize that the whole orange wasn’t for everyone.

What the hell are you people doing eating berry pies in November? Berries are summer fruit, served at the Fourth of July and, if they’re early, High Holidays.

One big thing to add to your imagining of the potluc is that every region and subculture has its own menu that it considers traditional, so somebody will be there insisting that cod liver cake is a cannonical part of Thanksgiving while your turkey is a new-agey interloper.

As far as I can tell, “chutney” is what foodies have decided is the most accurate thing to call preserves that aren’t just sweet. If you’re drawing that type of power for half an hour, I don’t think you’re on the ground any more.

Could be worse. Imagine if they’d used Bomba.

Also, the mentally ill can’t always be successfully treated.

But they make up a huge part of prison utilization because a life sentence is longer than a sixteen month possession stay. One murderer is worth seventeen (imprisoned) drug possessors, at least going by the averages I could find.

Since Kinja refuses to load, I’ll put this in its own comment rather than an edit:

This is a pretty classic example of someone claiming that everything but primary prevention is “bandage” that wastes time and money despite the unfocused nature of primary prevention making it costly and frequently unreliable.

The Soviets apparently ran a ton of alternative family structure experiments on their huge supply of World War orphans. While I haven’t seen a comprehensive rundown of everything, the general ghist I’ve gotten from Russophone researchers is that the results were... “varied.”

That’s so Dauntarius.

Wasn’t last week’s shooting a black guy in a mostly white church?
