I moved from Toledo, Oh to Las Vegas about June 15, 1975. My car arrived on July 2, and this is part of what I saw live the next day:

1000% this. Driving in a fresh rain on a CA freeway is like driving in freezing rain on the east coast.

Also, if the water is deep enough to splash (versus just spray), you’re probably fine. Just don’t freak out when you feel a little tug on the wheel.

Also note: a (big) rain presents the most dangerous road conditions at the beginning of the event - as oils and debris disperse across the road, before they are eventually washed away through gutters and drains. This phenomena is most evident the longer the dry spell before the rain.
