Yes but the Mary Sueing stuff was graded down and relegated to fanfiction dot net instead of the “quality” sites. Granted, all that self-governed community biz led to the the cliquey BNF thing -when don’t internet communities get all groupthinkey - but at least people seemed to take fanworks seriously.

Back in the pre tumblr days fandom was a self-governed community and rep was built on criteria such as how well the characterization adhered to the original no matter the situation or love triangle or whatever. About this Ziff Davis company who will likely be the buyers, what does this mean for the overall liberal perspective of the sites? I like the inclusiveness of sites like Kotaku and Io9 and various others. Ziff Davis seems to run male-oriented sites. I won’t cry tears over it but I fear if Jez gets totaled in the sale…

Was the racism reported in the story? Because I remember watching the Gawker video which was mostly the post-coital glow and Hulk swagger IIRC, but with the sound off, and I didn’t know about the racist remarks until years later. I’m a Gawker casual tho.
