Uber driver here. If passengers behaved appropriately during rides, they should have no issue being recorded. After all, there are windows all over the car. There should be no expectation of privacy in somebody else’s car. I have a dashcam that is prominently mounted on my windshield with a blinking red light and a

Even disregarding single or double consent laws for recording, is there even a reasonable expectation of privacy when you’re in a random stranger’s car? In my opinion, no. There are sensitive matters in all of our lives that we simply wouldn’t discuss in an Uber, Lyft, cab, bus, etc.

Assets don’t depreciate less or require less physical upkeep just because you own them outright.

It is completely plausible that someone has a loan that is effectively 50% underwater. That’s basically the entire problem with the auto market and its associated financing right now.

My guess is that she didn’t have GAP coverage, which is an expensive lesson. I can easily see a Kia like this losing half of the sales-price. Especially if the purchaser rolled-in some upside-down debt from a trade-in.

You’re going to have depreciation and pay for maintenance whether you have a loan or not.

I think you’re underestimating the willingness of Americans to take on large sums of debt.

That is incorrect. A car loan is a secured debt. The bank holds the title until the lien is paid off, and can take ownership via repossession if you miss payments. Don’t let the circumstances of this situation muddy the waters.

Why is that hard to believe? 60 month term with high interest rate, compared with a few years of depreciation, and yeah, the balance on the loan could be worth double the current value (not original value) of the car.

I was just about to post something similar. I think it doesn’t occur to a lot of people (or is never explained to them) that the two are separate. In fact, this lady is probably lucky that the bank hasn’t demanded she pay up the balance in full. If I recall from my last car loan, part of the stipulation is that you

Someone told her not to worry about the car catching fire since she’d be underwater on her loan.

That’s litterally what a loan is. You’re given money to pay for something you dont actually own and are paying it back. The payments arent connected to the car anymore. You’re paying back the bank who played for your car. Granted under a problem that has happened to others there should be a stop payment until it can be

Imagine for a moment, that you are a female civil rights activist in Putin’s Russia. Now, you know that no matter what you do, if you actually succeed in your goal of drawing attention to the horrendous state of human rights in your country, you are going to go to jail. And you will be abused. And you may never get

Yeah, I don’t think it’s fair to call these people “Idiots on the Field” when they are trying to bring attention to the farce that is Putin’s Russia.  These people have some serious guts.

‘what about Hillary’.

So... a parroty, of the Firebird?

1) they have never turned a profit. Ever.

Your anecdotes do not disprove statistics.

Shhhh... facts are hard for some people.

How many home invaders are you expecting???
