Great topic and good piece - thank you

Sleep is the foundation of good health for me

What works for me
Like Beth says, get a schedule and stick to it. Mine is 8:30pm to 5:30am
No phone or TV in the bedroom - leave the phone charging in the kitchen, you don’t need it in bed
Ear plugs, because I live in a city
Eye mask,

Sleep scientist here. I see this a lot. Four things:

There are “background noise” apps that helped me. I’m a fan of MyNoise (IOS).

Exactly. They are in no hurry to ramp things back up and restore production/refining/whatever capabilities. “What’s that? Gas prices are too high? All these profits are making it hard to hear you. Or to even care.

It makes me laugh that the very same people who think that socialism is from the devil and the government should never interfere with the free market are the first ones to say “the government needs to do something about gas prices!” whenever they can’t afford to fill their gas-guzzling SUVs.

Nah this guy is just full of shit. People have been spreading some variation of “the hospitals are full of vaxxed covid patients!” nonsense sense the vaccines became available. This is just more of the same.

Or get The Marvelous Suspender and be done.

Who stopped obsessing about hand washing??? Not this guy.

Or just put your ice in a freezer bag.

Usually not; they’ll have very limited stock of a few can’t-miss deals, but 99% of it’s the cheapest junk that they can’t unload on anybody. I recommend looking at other stores for a lot of what they carry; the last time I built a PC, I ended up buying everything from NewEgg because it was so much cheaper.

Fun fact for renters - a key labeled “DO NOT DUPLICATE” means nothing, there are no laws that actually prohibit you from duplicating it and no legal punishment for this. Of course, your landlord may have it in the lease agreement that you don’t do it (plus, if you do want duplicates, they may want to charge you extra

Why did I un-gray you?  No other Western country has nearly the same level of gun violence and deaths as the US. Bad parenting and mental health aren’t the reason.

That had nothing to do with turbulence.

I once had a pilot come on the intercom during some bad turbulence and say “Don’t worry folks, this plane can take a lot more than you can.”

In fact, you will get knocked down and break apart before the plane does.

I always treat turbulence like a roller coaster. It can be scary, but there’s virtually no chance of the plane crashing just from turbulence once at cruising altitude. So let go of that fear and have fun with the adrenaline rush. Just don’t be tempted to fly closer to Mt. Fuji to get a better look, and you’ll be fine.

I’m really starting to hate horizontal windows. those are the only kind I’ve ever had, and putting a window A/C in one is a lot of fun because then I had to cut out a piece of wood to block the rest of the window. You CAN turn those intake/exhaust fans from the comments above vertically to help fit the window. The

It’s funny you mention that. :)
We moved into a quite lovely rental house that has a basement, and during the winter?
The basement was not our friend, but now?
Cold air seeps up from the ground and helps cool the house.
But?
Still, the bedrooms get hot.
No worries, install a window unit, only?
