Something that is apparently impossible for anti-vaxxer like this to understand is that the vaccine doesn’t prevent one from getting infected and testing positive for the virus. What the vaccine is really, really good at is keeping one from getting so sick they need to go to the hospital and/or die. And this is amply

i live on cape cod. it’s mostly elderly people here & most of them are vaccinated. at the stop & shop, you used to see everyone wearing a mask. then summer came & with it, hoardes of tourists who can easily lie & say they’ve had their shots. no one at the store wore a mask anymore. yesterday when i went shopping, i

Exactly!

If you’ve heard that vaccinated people shed just as much virus as unvaccinated people, that’s true, but only in the context of people who actually get sick.

That particular commenter has been denying the severity of COVID & promoting anti-vax viewpoints for the last year.

Two statisticians commented on the Daily Mail headline here: https://www.theguardian.com/theobserver/commentisfree/2021/jun/27/why-most-people-who-now-die-with-covid-have-been-vaccinated

Also, if you look carefully into other fatal things, exposure to solid, liquid, or gaseous Dihydrogen Monoxide, is far more deadlier per year and per capita than Corona could ever dream of and it’s used in many industries and manufacturing as well.

Have you seen the fatality rate for chickenpox in the above graph? It’s almost zero.

What infograph? I looked up how many people get chickenpox in the U.S. per year and how many die, and compared it to how many people have gotten COVID-19 in the U.S. and how many have died. The death rate is 62.9 times higher for COVID-19 than for chickenpox. The number of people who die is more than 6000 times higher.

Because COVID-19 is, in the U.S., 63 TIMES more deadly than chickenpox?

R0 is a rating of rate of infection. Original COVID was around 1 or a bit higher, meaning each person would infect 1-2 others. Delta has a R0 of 9-10. So about 9x more contagious, and each person will infect 9-10 others. It’s very bad news for the unvaccinated. Get the shots and coerce everyone else to get them.

So it’s FAR more contagious, and it’s more deadly. If you’re a healthy adult who declines being vaccinated, I’m sorry but you’re a goddamn idiot.

The fact that vaccinated people are getting sick is sadly fodder for the anti-vax crowd to claim the vaccine doesn’t work. They are completely ignoring the reduction in hospitalization/death that the vaccine is scientifically showing, while claiming they “follow the science” as they refuse to mask up or get vaccinated.

Um...  its super fucking contagious.  My vaccinated friends are coming down with symptoms right and left here in San Diego.

I’m always hesitant to re-purpose items for other unintended uses. I don’t think I’d ever heat up a can in the oven unless it specifically says that it is ok to. Cans are for temporary storage at room temperature and I don’t know how the can might react to high heat. Will it release toxic chemicals when heated or will

I support you Harmon20 - so does the wildlife that calls your yard home.

This article is quite welcome, as past Lifehacker columns have been promoting planting invasive species in gardens.

I do support planting more natives and have definitely seen more pollinator diversity since I’ve been planting them. I am however really surprised to see bindweed, a horribly invasive plant, on that NWF list of native plant recommendations for my area. Ugh, bindweed. It’s my nemesis. Likewise Virginia Creeper is a
