Your "living legend" passed out of pop culture viability years ago and needs to learn how to retire gracefully and accede the floor to the young women who are coming up now. She had her moment. It was Mary's moment tonight, or should have been.
That was Mary Lambert's time. Nobody should have been allowed to interfere with her beautiful lyrics and her beautiful voice.
Where on earth did you get the notion that I need to have my "bits" as you call them found attractive by everyone? Holy smokes, talk about projection! I love my body, and my partner(s) loves it too. I don't need your weird fake-pity to make me feel good about myself.
This article isn't about straight women — its about gay men and their attitude towards women. All women. That includes you. Your experiences with straight women have no bearing on this article, although they sound like they might be worth an article of their own. That's neither here nor there, though; that still is…
Deflect deflect deflect!
So, when gay men refer to you as a "fish" and go "uggh" when they look at you and talk about you behind your back about how "disgusting" you are and how you stink and that you are repulsive simply for taking up space on the planet with the body that you have...
1) Yeah, lesbians are not allowed to refer to me as "breeder". I have made this clear with prior roommates that I've had. When I set boundaries, I do not fuck around. You can sling insults all you like, but you are also not standing in front of me when you do, so you know, tell me now who is posturing.
I wasn't referring to you then, was I? I was referring to the person who explicitly referring to her belief that the article "failed" (her words) because it wasn't about the topic she wanted it to be about.
Sexually assault? I think you've stretched the definition past its breaking point.
I'm not anxious at all. I removed myself from their company 15 years ago because I was sick of being expected to take their sexist abuse with a smile.
Am I supposed to be happy about that? Their ignorant sexist self-loathing is not my problem. If I hear it come from any of them, they will get a very loud and assertive education about what that word means, what it refers to, and why they will not use it anymore and they will especially not ever use it where I can…
Yeah, another poster mentioned that, that this article is pretty much preaching to the choir. Its interesting the responses that have cropped up, and how common an experience this is for women. I don't read media targeted to gay men except for spinning through Towleroad every once in a while looking for stories on…
They don't need to be discussed together. They *can* be discussed together, but there is some behavior that is unequivocally *wrong* that it can be discussed on its own without any other context, as if that context is some sort of excuse or mitigating factor. It isn't, and it should never be used as such.
That's three words.
The article did what it set out to do, which was call out really repulsive expressions of misogyny by gay men. In that respect, its not a failure.
Would I threaten a black man who got up in my grill and called me a cracker? I'd probably laugh, because it doesn't actually refer to me at all. I'm not a Southerner, I am not descended from Southerners, and my family history had nothing whatsoever to do with plantations or the people employed to beat and torture…
You can comment about whatever you like, but the fact that the article isn't about a topic that you want to talk about isn't a failing of the article. It just means that you wanted to read a different article, which you can either try to get Jezebel to solicit or write one of your own. The fact that the topic under…
Yeah, I just read through all the other replies. It looks like OP fooled everyone. My point stands though; the reaction was not introspection, it was to deflect and attempt to redirect. The only people who are discussing the content of the article seem to be women who have been on the receiving end of this,…
On the other hand, if most of these women were complete in their, they'd also say "Some of the worst misogynists I've known are straight white guys/straight black guys/straight Asian guys/etc. etc. etc."
