No, I saw the response was to me, and I already mentioned that I assumed punishment should be doled out to the kid.
Except, I don't have the stigma that society does when it comes to illness. Take a look at all the uproar above, and tell me that I'm the problem.
My concern for getting this kid help seems to have supposed a wide jump to believing that I don't think he should pay for his actions.
I'd say that my definition of an asshole differs from the majority. Goes way beyond asshole, imo.

Except I'm not really doing a disservice at all, because I too know that most who are ill tend to be victims. But it's not mutually exclusive.
Why shouldn't he get help though? And, an asshole who seemed to seriously believe he had a 'girlfriend' so many miles away? That sounds pretty deranged to me.
Diagnosing an illness, I should mention, doesn't mean that I believe he should be excused for his actions. Probably, I wasn't clear enough ... I too feel he should be held accountable for his crimes.

See, I remember that case of the kid over Xbox Live or whichever network it was, can't remember the full details, but the one whose threats got him in jail. But that seems like a one-time kid-related blunder compared to the handful of things going on from the report.
