Puppy mills and backyard breeders scare me. All I can say is never adopt a dog on a whim.

The United States simply lags behind in animal rights, compared to other developed nations - hardly surprising, it’s also lagging behind in human rights. Shelters and veterinarians in other nations for instance are not allowed to euthanize animals unless it’s a medical necessity, so killing 2.000 dogs every day like

I want to know how the general public doesn’t know this stuff to the point that they still want to give pets as holiday gifts. Or do they know and just not care? What breaks my heart the most is hearing when adults “punish” their kids for not taking care of a family pet by giving it away.

I saw some posts on Fb this weekend from people trying to sell the dogs they got for Christmas gifts. So sad, pets should not be given as gifts.

That breaks my heart to think about, but we have the same issue in rural farmland areas around here. People dumping dogs. I have a cat who was left with its litter, as super young kittens, in a box in a fast food parking lot. She was the only one to survive and ended up being the “resident cat” at a vet’s office.

Shelters and pet shops are not allowed to sell animals over the holiday period in some places, which really should be a national law if possible, as far as I’m concerned.

Yep. our local shelter actually will not do an adoption over the holiday period and will actively encourage people looking earlier in the month to hold off on bringing the animal home until after holiday craziness.

I live in the Midwest and my neighbor works for our county animal control. In the past 5 days their population of dogs, cats, ferrets and chinchillas has gone up four-fold. Can you guess why?

There have been some studies that show that people with authoritarian personalities and rage issues are drawn to three professions: police, prison guards, and teachers. In all three, you have control over vulnerable people. The majority of teachers are kind and dedicated, but there are some abusive teachers out

I get the impression Sarah Summers spent a lot of high school gym class throwing tampons in the shower at bullied girls. I also get the impression that her mother told the school administration officials that everyone is just jealous of her daughter, which is the REAL problem!

There was a teacher at my high school like this. He wasn’t ever directly my teacher, but was in and out of a classroom that I was using to do my dual-enrollment homework. He saw me using web-based email one day. At the time, this was not allowed with one important exception: if you were a dual-enrolled student, you

You’ve got to love a system that won’t give teachers chalk, but will give them firearms.

I’m a teacher and a Reservist. I’m trained to use a weapon and want no part of being armed in school. Just an absolutely terrible idea.

Racism makes it a lot worse, but even if you took a school where all of the teachers were white or of the same ethnicity, how are the armed police supposed to know which person with a gun is the bad guy? Yelling “I’m a teacher!” isn’t going to work because wouldn’t the shooter just yell that too? Both my cousins are

I had one elementary school teacher who was very abusive. To get my attention, he shoved me into a wall and I banged my head on the cement bricks. He screamed at a child so much that the child wet his pants. Said child was way beyond potty training years. This asshole used to snap his fingers in front of my face while

I’m sure it’s been noted elsewhere, but mandatory arming of teachers is simply a multi-million dollar gift to the NRA and weapon manufacturers. This is yet another grift in an endless list of grifts.

Or imagine the black teacher with his gun, taking out the intruder with guns being killed by police who rush in at the end to shoot the teacher because they see a gun. Fucking nonsense.

Especially if it’s a white teacher with students of color. This is a catastrophe in the making.

Anyone who seriously wants to arm teachers has never worked with teachers. Teachers can be bright, dedicated professionals, but trained snipers they are not. I’m just picturing a harried history teacher juggling stacks of papers. “Kids, I know I put my gun down somewhere! Help me find it.” And that’s not

And who is going to pay for the training of these teachers, including the fact their training will have to prepare them for possibly shooting a child or former student? Who is going to pay to arm them? Who is going to pay the ridiculous insurance each school will have to maintain, in case Mr. Johnson accidentally
