I’m pretty sure he’s 100% correct. The cars with high battery use will show lifetime MPG (which can’t be reset except by the dealer) in the 80s, 90s, and even mid 100s. 47.5 shows that the previous owner probably had a long commute, ran the first 35 or so miles on EV and then switched to gas for the looooooooong

Their best effort is 2 hours longer and leaves you with -14% battery. :-)

Maybe, but my brother has a Volt that he commutes in (well, did when commuting was still a thing...), and he can also drive it to my house 250 miles away. I doubt there’s a Supercharger on the way, so the Tesla’s probably not making it. Plus he doesn’t have to ask himself if there’s a Supercharger along the way before

I own a second-gen Volt, and it is the best car I’ve ever owned. It is an enthusiasts car, but from a very weird perspective. Trying to maximize the battery is fun when you know you won’t be stranded on the side of the road when it runs out. Its also pretty peppy and handles like a slightly-chubby civic. Nice road

Hybrid cars and trucks seem to have fallen out of favor in the face of pure electrics and low fuel prices.

Not necessarily. Go look at the Toyota and Honda hybrid drive systems. For one thing, they completely ditch the multi-gear transmission.

It’s a straight resistance heater in the Volt - not a heat pump or anything, so the electrical draw is much higher than it would be in a/c mode. I will never understand why they *didn’t* put in a heat pump setup since there’s already an electric, variable-speed compressor for the a/c, but alas...they didn’t.

Former Prius owner, current Volt owner here. I really find it hard to believe you think the Prius is a nicer car to drive/ride in. Night and day difference. Our Prius seriously felt like and handled like a slug. It also felt grossly underpowered with absolute anemic acceleration. That and compared to the Volt the

I’ve owned 3 Volts: 2012, 2015 and 2017

Cold won’t hurt the battery (GM put really good thermal management in them) but you won’t go anywhere near as far on a charge. Mostly because you’re running the heater and that pulls a lot of power.

The acceleration feels so much better than it actually is - anything below about 45 mph has that instant squirt-forward kind of movement. At highway speeds it peters out quite a bit though.

Criminally underrated and underappreciated.

Nice price especially since you get the politeness horn which should be a feature in every car.

It should have been branded as the Volt, establishing Volt as the Electric Division of GM. Make them available through all GM stores at a kiosk or a little corner of the showroom floor until there was sufficient demand.

I absolutely love the Chevy Volt and am sad I didn’t buy one on my last purchase (manual gearbox requirements prevailed).

I’d do it. I still think this drivetrain is the best EV/EREV solution currently. GM did a fuck of a job understanding the product internally let alone marketing it externally.

Its a commuter car that will save you thousands of dollars on gas thats actually fun. Its not a penalty box: decent seats, bose is ok, steering is surprisingly tight, suspension is good (very little body roll), low center of gravity from batteries, lots of torque down low.

In sport mode it’ll smoke most cars off the

I’ve got a 2014 and we used to have a ‘12. A couple of things to note — Very, very, very few Volts have legitimately needed battery replacement. There’s a first-gen running around with over 400k miles on the original battery.

I’m not sure what gen Prius you drove, but if it was anything > 5 years old I’m not sure you were awake when driving it -- I’m biased, as a Volt owner, but most any review would have told you at the time the Volt was the nicer and better-performing driving experience.

I still have the range anxiety fear if I ever changed from my pure gas vehicles. To that point, hybrids are a safe choice for me and for a little over 6k this seems like a really good buy when the gas goes back up. That’s the reason for my NP vote.
