Cruze Eco manual trans. I average over 40mpg in mixed city/highway use and 44-52mpg highway only, mainly depending on speed, terrain, and outdoor temp/AC use. Pump calculation. I was keeping logs on Fuelly but got lazy about a year ago. It’s a great car for cheap cost per mile commuting or travel.

True. Cross country in most electric cars is not logistically feasible these days. Charging rates will have to increase and so will the number of available chargers. Tesla is obviously the exception, superchargers make it more feasible, but they still add a lot of time to the trip versus a gas car. I can easily get

Yeah.... but you could stay more rich by buying something cheaper than a Tesla. You’re not making back what you’re saving in electricity versus the depreciation.

The myth that an electric car is always cheaper to operate is unfortunately not always the case.

Or, the other OEMs are just going for the one that the industry as a whole has agreed on, and has more public chargers...

I see the allure of getting to try out something different often, that’d be hella fun. The logistics of pulling it off would kill me, I love buying and hate selling. I can respect someone who can pull both off...

Registration depends on the state. Here the plates are tied to the person, not the car. When you buy a new car, you just pay a small fee to update their records. The registration term stays the same (expires on your birthday).

Man, I’m the complete opposite. I buy cars and never sell them. I love keeping them on the road past their design life. I guarantee the two oldest would be in the junkyard for if anyone else owned them. But why do that when you can macgyver a cheap fix and keep racking up the miles?

This. You can loose the scented stuff and throw on insect repellent in the woods.

Because they are styled like a derivative copy of the VW bug.

I would have guessed the wagon market is better today than 5-10 years ago. Hell, the Civic wagon is back, GM has a wagon Cruze, etc.

I think you just summed up the entire US’s strategic infrastructure plan.

Ohh. You had penalty box trim. Probably an LS with the anemic 1.8L. They should have never put that engine in the Cruze, at least they learned and only offered the 1.4L turbo in the 2nd gen.

Great idea! That would cost money, so it’ll never happen...

Really? I like the Volt and have looked into swapping my Cruze for one now that the prices on the used Volts have dropped, but the Volt interior is a downgrade. The no-button dash and all-plastic interior is a negative for me at least. I’ll take the cloth/plastic dash and the radio with buttons/touchscreen combo in

Agreed. The Smart is too much money, and not enough utility/economy for the money. The fact it weighs about 1600-1700lbs and gets below 40mpg is disappointing at best.

Just as a teaser, no lift shift can be done in the prior gen Cruze with a flash to the PCM. Not sure about the current gen.

No one said they were worse, just that the OEM has to bear the expense of certifying every single powertrain option. That includes every option including manual/auto, awd/non-awd, different rear diffs, etc.

The average lifespan of a car is 11.5 years. Average. There’s plenty that are on the road for less, and plenty that are on the road for far longer.
