Cultural assimilation is useful in large part because of ethnocentrism, xenophobia, and the like. Also, insisting that (other) people assimilate or that they're then unworthy of citizenship or even respect is dickish. So if you want to be a dick, fine—just don't tell us you're not being a dick.
