Yikes. Yeah, his reaction is key there. Glad your company was able to recognize that in this case his mom’s behavior was a separate entity and the employee still had a good sense of professional norms even tho the mom clearly did not.

Completely agree.  I mean, it speaks to our general culture of “I must deny myself things that I want in order to be thin enough to be considered sexy/beautiful” — and it’s sad that people (women) feel such pressure to be a certain way all the time.

My family gatherings inevitably involve my aunt, the host, trying to chase people down and corral them into the dining room while all of the cousins (largely in our 20s - 30s at this point) scramble to avoid her long enough to be able to snag a spot at the kids table where the fun really is.

Definitely. Also along those lines, I recently discovered a Thai place nearby that does an amazing tom ka gai soup (and they deliver!!).

They do mention a love triangle ... Could be something like, she thinks she’s in love with the foreign exchange student because she’s so excited to finally meet a guy who is actually taller than her that it sort of blinds her to the other ways in which he’s not really The One.
