I’m not going to argue that Close deserves recognition for her acting abilities - she’s the actor everyone thinks Meryl Streep is - but I saw both ‘The Wife’ and ‘The Favourite’, and I do think Colman gave the superior performance. It was brave, funny, poignant, and complex, and it’s just one of the great performances

Calling strangers ‘Hun’ or ‘Dear’ or ‘Sweetie’ is common in the South, to the point that most people who live there don’t even notice it.

But calling strange women ‘Baby’ isn’t and never has been.

You can chalk the first up to the culture (but you can still ask not to be called that if it bothers you), but not the

It was good, but I liked ‘Isle of Dogs’. It isn't so overwhelming like modern scores seem to be. I liked everything about that film. Also...dogs.

I’d argue that that’s a fundamentally narrow and immature way to look at art. Just because something doesn’t have obvious themes that hit you over the head, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t say anything about the world. And for what it’s worth, Black Panther actually does have obvious themes so your argument doesn’t

Indeed, season 2 “Globesman”,  where they go door to door trying to sell people Globes.

A Wrinkle in Time flopped because it was bad.

Perhaps it was my low expectation going in but I was pleasantly surprised by how often I was laughing.

Yeah, I don’t get the negative review at all. It was a solid enough episode, not outstanding but not bad. Halsey was fine. And there was some strong material in there. I think maybe you’ve reviewed SNL for too long. Maybe a fresh set of eyes is needed.

First Serenity (2019), then Stardust (2020). I’m looking forward to the Donovan biopics, Sunshine (2021) and Superman: The Movie (Richard Donner, 1978) (2022).

I just think a lot of people have pretty narrow definitions of good singing. As someone better-versed in rock music than showtunes, I tend to give a lot more leeway. I don’t think (for example) Stone and Gosling sound bad in La La Land. I think they sound fine for the types of songs they’re singing. It’s sort of like

Look up Thrilling Adventure Hour.

This is really out there, so bear with me, but I’m beginning to think of New York City as a character in itself.  Weird, I know...

I just finished reading that Atlantic article and it’s depressing as hell.  I can’t believe this dude’s been getting away with shit like this for 20+ years now.

Considering that they formed a production company, DEN, specifically to make shows starring and for adolescent boys with a smaller focus on gay-themed (which on its face is a great idea for that era of the late 90s and its dearth of LGBT characters/storylines) but that managed to just be a front for underaged orgies

I think it’s better to say that Rob Lowe did a duet with Eileen Bowman, who was in character as Snow White. It wasn’t the real Snow White, who is a total bitch and can’t really sing to save her life.

Tom Bergeron. There’s your solid choice. Non-controversial (except for the fact that he’s a white guy replacing the black guy), a great host who elevates the cheesy material he normally works with, and someone that this would probably be a career boost for.

Damn it Barry Carol!

That needs to be brought up whenever someone tries to downplay the problem.

An F! A glorious F! It’s a Christmas miracle! Thank you, St. Ignatiy! Thank you for the amount and depth of film and literary history to a pan of economics-driven filmic shovelware! I didn’t expect to learn about the provenance of Sherlock Holmes adaptations and original texts.
