WHAT.. have you heard Mariah’s first album? Seen her first few TV performances on Youtube? She was the opposite of sloppy... she had every run, every long high note, down. She was amazing. Rivaled Whitney. Get outta here

The wiki article is right, tessitura has both meanings. Though the quoted definition is still wrong, in that it doesn’t refer specifically to how long a song lives up high, it’s just where the song generally sits. A song could have a range of an octave and a half (for example), but the tessitura could be a fifth

I feel you on Telephone being the peak. I still love and listen to her stuff out of sheer loyalty but, yeah, The Fame Monster was her last Great Album IMHO.

We use the word tessitura, which is how long a song lives up high. Now she’s singing in a range and a tessitura that is uncommon for her but is common for many of these other leading female artists.

Look at Adele!

But even in those songs, there are phrases, sounds, etc in between the repeated phrases, and they are repeated only twice. In “Perfect Illusion” the phrase is repeated FOUR times in each verse.

Mariah Carey is/was stupid talented. I could never figure out the whistle register. I will stan for Mariah all day.

correction, “It wasn’t LAAAAAAAHHHVVVE”

This is bullshit.

It’s way, way, way too repetitive.

There isn’t a good hook. Or whatever they call that thing I like in pop songs I like.

I’m not sure I like the song, but I’m also not sure why the coach is equating having a higher belt-range with being a better singer. Just because you can sing higher notes louder doesn’t make you objectively sing better than someone with a different range/timbre. Signed, a Bitter Contralto.

Interesting read! I definitely did not expect this amount of Ariana stanning, I will say.

Besides the “shrillness” of her voice, I just think the song is too repetitive. The phrase “It wasn’t looooove” just goes on and on to the point where you get tired of hearing it.

uhhh justin theroux is not creepy

Please take that back about Justin Theroux!

Jennifer is taking a little time out to absorb the horrific news and meditate.
