Insanely slow? The 924S has 150-160hp (depending on whether you had an ‘87 or ‘88) in a ~2400lb package. It’s no drag strip champion, but it’s not exactly boring in a straight line either.

Any chance this is the long-rumored Hybrid Mustang? Too soon? It would make some sense if it’s a mild hybrid and they can fit most of the extra electrics/battery in the back and package a motor into the driveline somewhere (motor-in gearbox?)
