It’s not ‘the rest of Colorado.’ Much of the state - take, for instance, my home town, the quaint little bastion of religious purity known as Colorado Springs - has not approved the sale of it because they’re bad at math.

Two years ago in Idaho they were pulling over everybody with Washington or Colorado plates and impounding their cars at the slightest whiff of weed. They made the mistake of pulling over some very wealthy executive who apparently didn’t look exec. He looked like a hippy and there was no dog hit on the car. They…
As others have said NO edibles. That’s all about dosing and understanding how cannabis affects you and how it kicks in. Pre-rolled joints are great if you don’t mind smoking as they require no equipment save for a lighter, and you’ll start feeling the effects within 10 minutes. If you’ve never used cannabis before I’d…
I had a few gummies and laughed my head off for three hours straight. Best time of my life.
I almost never smoke in my home state but I travel to Washington state and Colorado a few times a year and I always make sure to hit up the dispensary. The joints always hit me wayyyy harder than what I’m used to in my non-legal marijuana state (I guess we get dirt weed?); like two tokes and I’m out. That’s why I…
Also, don’t fall for the “K9 Drug Checkpoint” signs on interstate highways in neighboring states. There is no checkpoint, the State patrol is forcing you off on an exit with no services to bust you. Such checkpoints are unconstitutional, but putting up signs advertising them is apparently ok.
Colorado guy here. Big edibles guy. Don’t smoke a ton. Recommend the “Highly Edibles” gummies. Most places have them. Super mellow but not sleepy buzz. Try the 5 mg or eat half of a 10 mg with or after a big (fatty) meal and wait like 1 hr and you’ll feel it.
I’m going to disagree with the “stay away from edibles” advice, BUT with a word of caution. Edibles take time to hit you. Ask what the recommended amount for a newbie is, and once you’ve had that amount, do NOT eat anymore until the next day, when you’re sure it’s out of your system.
“Bring Cash”
I would also look for a CBD product to take along with your regular THC product. CBD is what they give seizure patients, it’s a different type of cannabis extract. For me, a CBD product has a very anti-anxiety effect to it, and can help keep the paranoia away that may set in for a novice when dealing with strong…
Another quibble, certain counties or towns didn’t legalize recreational sales. Fort Collins is the only place in Larimer County with rec sales. Colorado Springs didn’t legalize rec sales, shocker there...not. Infinite Wellness in FoCo is my gold standard.
I have rarely encountered a dispensary anywhere in CO that takes anything but cash. Most have an ATM inside if you are low on cash.
I recently visited Colorado and bought from Native Roots. Great dispensary and really cool people. Edibles (10 mg) were the ticket. Had a great time and followed all the advice from the budtender. My friend did not and ended up taking a long, hard nap (I thought he was dead).
If you are smoking, buy a preroll. DO NOT purchase anything with a THC content higher than 20%, aim for about 12-16%. Decide if you want to sit on a couch or go do stuff, are you interested in head (giggle weed) or body (can we order in?) and express this to the bud tender. Have water bottles handy. One hit is good.…
Please give us the name of that hotel so we make sure to never stay there. What dicks.
I live in CO, and yeah, these are good tips for being a polite shopper, but I would also suggest that being a polite tourist also means:
Yeah when it first became legal in Colorado, prices were higher than black market. Now, they’re cheaper than I ever thought possible. Additionally, Colorado being the first to market has made diversity, options, and innovation a bedrock of the economy. Come back and try it again.
Prices have dropped a lot. I found purchasing in CO in 2017 much cheaper than purchasing in WA in 2015.
Look into edibles or tinctures. Bud tenders will know the strengths of their products and will give you directions on how much to eat and how long to wait for the effects to start. You can just straight-up tell them “I’ve never done this before, help,” and no one working will judge you or treat you differently.…
There’s a gazillion different edibles now, from candy to canned drinks. Best advice is GO SLOW! It’s easy to get more than you want, and no fun.
