As someone who isn’t American, ACIII for me has the all-time record for having the most disinteresting setting of any of the games. Coming off of the previous four titles, the series had built a reputation for having settings that put you in places of great splendour, art, and scale.

While I wouldn’t say I hated III, it was the entry that informed me that I’d had my fill of Assassin’s Creed, and I haven’t played one since.
