It's interesting how this affects even the tiniest monetary amounts; take GOG.com for instance. They sell Good Old Games for cheap - $9.99 or $5.99 (DRM-free, I might add). Yet I find myself reluctant to purchase a game from there unless it's featured in one of their frequent weekend sales and marked down 25-75% or

@Howard Blair: Actually, I find such ads as very useful gauges of a site's... legitimacy? Worthiness? Decency? Can't think of the right word. Basically, if I follow a link to a site with tons of flashy banner ads, I intuitively know that the site is probably not worth browsing around in - and vice versa. :)
