Historically changes like this tend to make cards unplayable in their given meta. Fiery War Axe comes to mind as a card that became useless when not playable on turn 2.

He was probably trying to be nice by sharing some of his ad-revenue from the video in advance. Unfortunately it created a perverse-incentive.
What this really does is move deck power away from free/cheap cards and force players to buy more boosters from each expansion. They could just as easily have buffed the other decks to be competitive with Druid/Paladin instead of nerfing basic cards.
This isn’t hard people.
