If Manning and the Giants continue at their current pace, the frustration will intensify.

Shoot, I’m the opposite. I AM listening and somehow I still eff it up.
I think what they, especially his girlfriend, were trying to say without saying it is Honnold is on the autism spectrum.
We’ve been doing a book club at work and we read a lot of biographies about athletes and business people and I think you nailed it. The thing I take away from all of these books (and stories about Honnold, Potter, Sketchy Andy, Shane McConkey), is that they are almost universally a bit off.
I’m guessing you’ve been married for fewer than 10 years. 15 max. As you get to the Championship Years, you need to conserve as much energy as possible so you just sort of shrug and check Twitter.
I was there the same week he did this, completely unaware of his plan. Wasn’t until after I came home did his achievement go viral. But we did see people climbing El Cap just a few days before so it could have been him or the crew getting ready. Who knows but I’ve been waiting to watch this ever since.
I feel about Honnold the same way I felt about Dean Potter. Both were elite, and I was sort of keenly aware for both that what they did would likely kill them someday. I was sad when Potter died after an accident in his wingsuit a few years ago, but I wasn’t surprised. I feel kind of similarly about Honnold—it’s…
But there’s actual documentation of this climb.
I think it is made very clear in the movie (and in the review) that something is not right with him.
8. At Last
You sir, are playing the most dangerous game. Maybe try this free climbing thing--you know, something less apt to get you dead.
When 127 Hours came out, someone asked me in a crowded elevator if I’d seen it. I said “I want to, but it sounds too long...” and someone behind me audibly groaned. I still well up with pride when I think about it.
I’m sorry, I usually stay out of this, but this is a miserable take.
Caught this last weekend, and yeah, as much as I was mesmerized by the feat, the process and the images (dude, when the camera pulls out at the end to show El Cap in its entirety, holy crap), I came away thinking something ain’t right with Alex.
He’s done these climbs with ropes (many, many times) before, and in fact holds a sub-2 record on The Nose on El Cap. Different route, but still.
This is something I can barely even imagine being possible, let alone fathom attempting. Like, I can run, so I can imagine what it’s like to run really, really fast like Usain Bolt. I can ride a bike, so I can imagine what it must be like to ride the Tour de France. This, however, is completely alien to me.
Anyone who balks at that is nuts. There are only a few things that are even in the same ballpark that I can think of (ultramarathons, extreme cave diving/spelunking), and nothing approaches the combination of athleticism, preparation, precision, stamina, and mental fortitude that this requires. Unless they’re balking…
yea, why can’t he work a meaningless desk job for thirty years and die of a heart attack like the rest of us!
FREES, RANKED
Pinnacle of human achievement? Meh, you’ve never seen me repeat back exactly what my wife just told me even though I am clearly not listening.
