what kind of performance do you get? I'd like to try this with slingplayer, but I don't think it works well in wine to begin with

Cat + Drink + Laptop = disaster

@cwsterling: marand's css solution would be ideal if this only needs to be used on the web. just make a div with absolute positioning and a z-index above the image. If not, use jpeg. It isn't ideal for an illustration like these, but you should have no problem getting a picture of that resolution in good quality under

@Gotlactose: this is xp, I'll check the bios but the driver is good, it's an airlink pci card. I couldn't track down anything pointing to this specific hardware having this issue.

@John Cleaver: soooo I'm not the only one losing sleep over this? *rimshot*

@cwsterling: can you explain what you're doing? Are you processing the image with php? how is transparency being used? is this a photo or an illustration? what level of quality do you require?

@ddmeightball: logmein. If you're needing to help someone, chances are they'll never be able to tell you their ip or open a port on their router. Logmein is supid-simple to install and passes the mom test.

@vSanjo: I don't actually mean this: is this a beginner's course? You'll probably do some still life, learn a little about art history, and learn about fundamentals (composition, color, ect).

wifi problem

@pmbaustin: It is because it requires the same artistic and technical skill as applying a bunch of random photoshop filters. 10 years from now a bad hdr photo will be about as impressive as a 10 year old photo covered in lens flares is today.

@joe reader: great point. I feel the same about interviews. If you're interviewing for something you know and enjoy, then there's nothing to sweat.

@Ben McCormack: how much does a 64 bit win 7 installation take? My mini 9 has a 16gb ssd.

@TekWarren: I've worked on different projects that use automatic image caching and logging. Sometimes you tweak some code and the next day you drive is full. Tools like this are useful for finding areas that balloon out of control.

@Matthew: If your router doesn't have QoS options, you can do it through software by using one of your home computers as a gateway that sits between modem and the router.

@DocBadwrench: I love orb. It lets you stream everything through a flash video player in the browser, nothing to download. The quality is sub-par on a local network, but across the net it doesn't get much better, and it's stupid-easy to set up.

A couple weeks ago I asked for free and simple recommendations for setting up a security webcam. It wasn't simple, but I've got a free solution that lets me view my cams from my iPhone, including remotely storing any motion detected.

the usb speaker thing isn't much of a tip. You're basically saying that adapter does what it's supposed to do?

@Prairie Moon: you could use one of those batteries that charges usb devices.
