Exactly. Cops need to be taught to think about outcomes before they engage in shit like this. Once it starts there is no good way out for either party. I believe in law enforcement but I also believe in officers having good common sense. This officer didn't have good sense and I believe he might have wanted to harass

I'll bet good money the college's reaction would be quite a bit different if it was the football team's head coach being slammed onto the car.

I remember some kid at my school nearly got a ticket for jaywalking when I lived in Phoenix. He was in third grade, so what, 8 or 9? I heard that the only thing that saved him from the ticket was that he was pretty close to the actual crosswalk, rather than just crossing wherever he felt like it.

If he'd stopped and actually discussed with her what he was doing, it could have ended differently. Instead, he continually tried to cut her off despite having people around them jaywalking, and when she tried to ask him why he singled her out despite people CONSTANTLY jaywalking at ASU, he escalates it. He was in the

Dr. Ore seems really brave and reasonable. I'm glad she stood up for herself like that and what happened to her (from what I saw; it was a little hard to tell what was going on in the video) seems completely unwarranted. But can we please also remember that she was comfortable standing up to the cops because she's a

That officer should be fired, or at least severely disciplined. A big part of your job as a police officer is to de-escalate situations. You shouldn't escalate the smallest of situations into a full blown confrontation. If a police officer is slamming someone to the ground as a result of a jaywalking stop, the

I'm a psychologist who conducts research, supervises doctoral students' dissertations, and teaches psychological ethics. According to a press release from Cornell University, this study was funded in part by the US Army Research Office; that makes its failure to provide informed consent to participants a clear

So the police force is a breeding ground for people who enjoy violating the civil rights of others, degrading, humiliating them and exercizing violence and abusing others while in a position of power?

Umm, but, the problem is that the church keeps appointing old white guys.

Sure, a lot of really great people are Catholic. But that does not redeem the church itself.

And, sorry (not sorry), but if you're not going to hold your church and your pope accountable, then you're no better than the worst of them.

The church is

Slow day at the Facebook PR office? Everyone has a limited supply of emotional energy to process setbacks and go on. Everyone gets a certain amount of emotional garbage dumped on them every day. And it takes an effort to wade through all this shit to get back on dry ground and go on. To talk yourself back from the

Coming from someone who has major depressive disorder, "a few more negative words" is not insignificant. It is not outside the realm of possibility that such "tweaks" to mood could cause someone with, say, a tendency to self-injure actual physical harm.

In the world of research involving human subjects, there is a concept of informed consent, and although this type of activity may have been "agreed to" in the user agreement that no one reads, I wonder if this would meet a legal test for the true definition of "informed consent".

I just spent the last ten minutes searching grammar websites, because your comment made me very curious whether "bald-faced lie" or "bold-faced lie" was more correct. (I had only ever seen "bold-faced lie".) Fun fact! "Bold-faced" suggests a brazen lie, while "bald-faced" suggests an undisguised one. Both are

Not sure if you're trolling, but not all gay men have anal sex (shocker!) And many straight couples have anal sex (double shocker!)

Wow. Did you point out to him that straight people also have butts, and that sometimes they do stuff with them?

The paper seat covers always say things like "for your protection" on the box. I always wonder what it's actually protecting me from.... bears? Could it be bears? (But seriously, what is it protecting you from?!?)

You can hover, THEN wipe up after yourself. I do it because I'm obsessed with strengthening my thigh muscles.

Except for the ones who hover because the seat is already covered in piss!

Yup. I don't think I'm going to get any kind of infection-I just don't want to sit in someone elses poop/pee. I'm sure some of it is from people that are bad hoverers (those that don't get close to the bowl, but just stand and semi lean), but there are also people that just pee messy. Even when they sit.

Because unless you are a Twilight vampire, showing up naked would be significantly less sparkly.
