I’m a little disturbed that I do manage to hate it, given that I have a 12 year old daughter. Maybe that makes it easier somehow.
It’s true. I wore a sweatshirt on my 6am walk this morning in coastal LA. It was maybe 65.
Same, except I did it so I would have some semblance of a social life at my fairly unsocial school. Basically to go to parties and meet guys. Which I did, and we’re still together over 20 years later. But yea definitely not BFFs with most of those people and I wouldn’t be caught dead at an alumni thing.
I once worked at a large law firm with a word processing department full of enormous older women who all ate 10,000 calories of Panda Express every day for lunch and pooped in our floor’s bathroom like it was their job. It was unbearable.
Ok now I feel a little better— my 12 year old daughter and I are very close and I hope it’s not weird. I am most definitely her mom and I will shut her shit down if she is out of line. But she is the sweetest person, seriously off the charts for emotional intelligence, and really rarely does get out of line. I…
Same— my husband’s sister and his mom are basically joined at the hip, talk 10 times a day on the phone, see each other daily, and my inlaws have been de facto parents to her kids. My sister in law is an emotionally stunted 50 year old who acts like a teenager, despite being a doctor and a mom of 3 teens/young adults.…
I think it would be possible to buy work clothes at Old Navy as long as you’re sort of entry level or something, and you could maybe even work them into a wardrobe of more expensive items. They have blouses and pants, cardigans, etc. But generally for those of us expected to dress up, there is so little out there. The…
I’m really small, like a 0/2 at BR, so yea. But even then it’s still hit and miss. These days I’m elated if I can find one or two decent items at any store. I’m used to sending back/returning 80% of what I order anyway. But at least they make some attempt to carry work stuff, which is sort of unique at this point.
BR is constantly having 40% sales though, and with that, a decent dress for work is maybe $70. I think that’s pretty reasonable. I can’t work out why I don’t like Ann Taylor- I keep trying.
Agree on BR. It’s a godsend for those of us who actually have to go to an office and dress up. I’m wearing one of their dresses now— fitted sheath dress with cap sleeves. You aren’t going to find anything like that at Old Navy. Or if you do, it will be jersey material and/or the fit will be bizarre. The clothing world…
That’s the way it normally works— the mother/employee gets additional leave as disability or sick time, then after that gets separate leave that’s for “bonding.” The dad/employee gets only that one. But you can’t set up a policy where only the mom gets the bonding leave. Everyone in HR and legal knows that— they were…
Not that I know of- it’s been so long. But it makes me suspicious of all the really old people around town. They already tend to be the types that are nice when you chat with them while walking your dog, but then one day make a super weird semi-racist comment.
The guy in the office next to me has a 14 year old named Heather. One of our VPs is a 45 year old Heather and literally said to him, nobody names their kid that anymore. It was kind of harsh but true.
I love that I now have a kid (also 13) who will love it. He loves things like Twilight and Riverdale, and has my dark sense of humor.
Oprah was really into abuse topics though, because of her own past. A few times she did go off the rails a bit.
Not really related, but I live in the town where the McMartin preschool case happened. Weirds me out all the time.
Do you remember how much shows like Oprah and Phil Donahue contributed though? It was one of their favorite topics.
Oh no he’s fine— no bullying as far as I can tell. But social media worries me. He has sort of weird taste and a weirder sense of humor, and I worry that he would be bummed out when people didn’t like his stuff. As for TV, the big one watches like Riverdale, Teen Wolf, Degrassi, The Fosters. He loves Rachel Maddow,…
