That really explains a lot. There are so many people letting their unfixed dogs run wild, that must be how there are so many in shelters. And unfortunately it seems those same people prefer breeds that others don’t. It’s a bad combo.

I do think it’s counterproductive. I did not want a pit bull type dog when we were looking to adopt, and the intense attempts at intervention from “friends” didn’t sway me. Quite the opposite in fact. We ended up with an adult dog raised by a breeder who couldn’t keep her anymore. So not a “rescue,” but definitely a
