Whenever I see updates to Hangouts or Messenger, or see news about Allo or Duo, I imagine a gladiator arena inside the Googleplex where each team vies for dominance.

Fair enough. I was thinking in the workplace.

I think that patience is particularly good - especially if you happen to work in a large bureaucracy (as I do), and things don’t move as quickly as one might have been led to believe in college or grad school.

Learning how to “manage up.” Also, just pure organizational skills, and getting a team to follow the same rules of organization. An extremely important skills for electronic file management.

I sang along with that.

I once showed the sumifs function to an older (but very excel capable) coworker of mine, who only knew the sumif function. She had stitched together a bunch of SUMIF and AND functions together to get the same result.

VLOOKUP is my bread and butter for work, but I’ve started using INDIRECT to do some pretty nifty stuff between sheets. Relatedly, I also recently learned what the “V” in VLOOKUPs stand for: vertical. I only recently discovered the HLOOKUP formula (which does the same thing, but across rows instead of columns).

1. So, is this like Mint but for budget beginners? If you’re already comfortable setting up a budget, is there any long-term advantage to using this?

My city is Washington DC, but I’ve found rent for only about $1K a month.

It has yet to be a problem for me, but I think there is something to be said for avoiding putting all of your eggs into one basket.

Why the extra SD card? That seems like an odd thing to bring hiking.

I have two pots of money for savings, one for something like a general emergency (medical, emergency flights to attend to others’ medical emergencies, whatever), and another if god forbid I lose my job. Basically, if both things hit at once, I want to be prepared.
