To each their own. I really don’t like the HD-2D look. I think it’s usually garish, gimmicky, and distracting. I hate how weird and blocky everything looks. I really like how the pixel remasters look - it takes the original spritework, which looked beautiful on a CRT, and tries to simulate that. That, and the music is

In this game you just catch and battle Pokemon to fill out your Pokedex. That’s it. That is the game. There is ostensibly a main storyline, but it’s so straightforward and basically a given because the game knows what you’ll actually be doing isn’t rushing through the story, but instead exploring every nook and cranny

Yeah, I wouldn’t call it mediocre even if it eventually got overplayed. Artillery / tanks games were stale, Worms games adding humor, crazy multileveled stages and a wide variety of zany weapons to the formula was incredibly fun.

This is me right now, last played about 5 years ago, got suckered into downloading Arena and now am having a blast with all the fun of knowing all the rules and none of the cards (or new keywords) or meta.

I just wish WotC would just bring Arena to Switch. Yu-gi-oh is alright but these days I feel you really need to be deep in the game to understand what the hell is actually happening. With Magic I feel like I can leave for a decade come back and learn like 4 new keywords for the past couple sets and be good (And have

Same boat here. I thought about getting back in when I heard this was coming out. After twenty minutes of reading about new cards I was totally overwhelmed. This coming from someone who is still plugging away at nioh2 in dream of the wise (fourth playthrough three active layers of stat affecting choices)

While I am in rant-mode, this Kinja fucking sucks. Jesus Christ it sucks so bad. I also don’t understand why my comments are always grey, which means 99.9% of them never get approved.

Maybe it’s just me, but I’m getting tired of the idea that marginalized characters can only be written by marginalized people of the corresponding group. (I don’t think your article ventures into that territory at all, but it comes close enough to it that I figured this was excuse to try to put some vague thoughts

I like/own Generations and Colors, but I don’t love them per se. I’m glad the game design helps mitigate a lot of the issues in their true 3D movement games, but the physics and control still annoy me between how leaden and inconsistent Sonic feels when jumping and annoying issues like how Colors maps the double-jump

Nearly every current application NFTs are being used for are scams, whether large ones in the form of overly expensive GIFs or low level shit like this. Because at the end of the day it’s just getting people to part with their money for no real benefit. At least you can drive the $170k Ford Fusion.

There have been plenty of D&D games. Solasta was recently released, Baldur’s Gate 3 will likely be released in 2022, the Dark Alliance co-op action game was recently released, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous was recently released, TaleSpire recently started early access, etc.

Yeah, not only have I had the Genesis collection on Switch for a year or two now because it was on sale for $15, but it goes on sale for that price all the time. It just did again over Black Friday!

Eh? Turn-based combat is thriving. This year saw the release of Encased, Trudograd, Wildermyth and a whole bunch of early access games. Last year we had Wasteland 3, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Gears Tactics and XCOM: Chimera Squad. Honestly, turn-based combat is more popular than it’s been in a long time.

Yep. The switch carts are actually closer than ever to classic carts in that regard because they are also read-only-memory. You can’t save anything to them even though technically they’re basically nand flash.

As someone who’s active on the MegaTen subreddit, this piece cracks me up, because my Reddit feed has been absolutely inundated with memes about the IGN piece and SMT aficionados bickering about whether to shit talk Persona fans or be welcoming to them.

Note that those figures include bundles, and since Wii Sports was bundled with 80% of Wii systems...

What is it with you people. You just think games media should pretend that emulation doesn’t exist?

You think casual gamers will find paying $50 for a year’s access to games that are over 20 years old a bargain?

Not once more people realize you only temporarily get the dlc. Fuck that, not paying for this and just buying the dlc separate to actually own it.

This isn’t the Dead Sea scrolls we’re talking about, there are literally thousands of GTA3 listings on eBay right now. You can get one and seal it up in your video game history bunker for like ten bucks.
