My boss will often preface a request with “I totally understand if you can’t...” and he really means he totally understands if I can’t, but I always find a way to get it done (or show up at a last minute meeting, or whatever it is.) So yeah, he totally knew what he was doing.

None of the Trump’s have ever held a real job, so they’ve never been in a position where they can be fired for ignoring a “why don’t you do this?” type of request.
