Marcus Mariota drove the Titans down the field in under two minutes, down 7. Completed a pass that would have taken them inside the five with less than 30 seconds left, receiver gets stood up and they wrestle around for a while as forward progress got stopped. Lewan comes FLYING in like a fucking missile and rams

Grew up a Yankees fan, I was born 2 days before Munson died. I’m aware of other sports deaths (Snyder, Kile, Adenhart and others) but for some reason I am really having a hard time processing this.

An indicator is not definitive in of itself. To indicate is to strongly suggest or imply. Please look up the definition of indicate of which indicator is a derivative of. You’re simply wrong on the definition of the word. Therefore a hit led with the crown of the helmet suggests it may be targeting but a hit led with

You honestly can’t see the difference between “A indicates B” and “A is B”? Neck stiffness is an indicator for meningitis, but it is just as much an indicator of sleeping in a weird position. Indicators suggest the presence of something, but do not establish it’s presence to a certainty.

I just want to add a runny nose can be an indicator you have a cold but it could also mean you have the flu. I think that is what he is trying to get across.

You and your pesky truths

Contact between the top of the helmet and an opposing player doesn’t make it a crown of the helmet hit--see below for an illustration of the difference:

Generally, to qualify for a crown of the helmet hit, officials look for a lowering of the head prior to the hit. Incidental contact between the top side of the helmet to the offensive player isn’t enough to count.

You could argue every tackle is a case of the defender targeting a player. I mean, obviously they’re aiming to tackle the guy, right? So let’s not get hung up on the word without acknowledging it means something specific in football.

looks legal to me, i didnt see a gun on the play anywhere.

Great tackle and perfectly legal hit, The receiver caught the ball, took three steps made a football move, at that point he is a runner, targeting does not apply. The sport is and always be a contact sport, too many folks on this site don’t know the rules and think that every hard hit is a penalty. If you don’t want

A warning before an outright ejection? That’s way too logical of a solution for the NCAA to ever consider

Bullshit. He caught the ball took two or three steps, he id deemed a runner at that point, targeting does not apply. Learn the rules.

By Rule - that is not a penalty. The player is a runner when he gets hit, therefore not eligible for a hit to the head or neck of a defenseless player (rule 9.1.3). The hit by the defender is also not with the crown of the helmet, which is the very top of the helmet, which would be needed for the 9.1.4 version of

The PAC-12 prides itself on developing NFL replacement officials.

Hey Rose Bowl refs, let’s keep violence without consequences where it belongs, on campus.

Eh, I file that under “what the fuck ya gonna do?” He didn’t launch, he led with his shoulder, their heads just happens to smack together. Sometimes shit happens in football, it’s part of the very violent nature of the game. I wouldn’t argue if a penalty or something was called, but all I see is he didn’t think to go

You really need to stop equating safe and legal.

He was covering a different receiver, he wasn’t waiting for the receiver to catch the ball to tee off on him and he led with his shoulder, that’s why it wasn’t targeting

Throw out all the discussion of legal or not. Any helmet to helmet should be flagged and player warned. Ejected on second call. It does look like he dropped his head down before hitting him.
