I completely agree with this statement. I recently travelled with my laptop and when I connected my HDMI cable, I couldn't change the source on the flat screen LCD.

Thanks for adding in the line about having to run the command on both machines. I had run the command a while back on my Hackintosh, but nothing ever seemed to work with my MacBook still (which is officially supported). Now everything works perfectly.
