It’s unfortunate, but those of us who want attractively styled vehicles with manual transmissions are going to have to be less picky. It’s getting to be slim pickings out there, and the values of such cars are increasing disproportionately to the market. This would have been a $4K car all day long, two years ago.

Well, if we had the nice European Passat instead of the shitty dumbed-down version that seemed to be targeted towards Enterprise and Avis more than actual customers, it might not be dead.

Good, now they should retool the factory for a pickup, and put a TDI powertrain option in while they’re at it.

She should only buy SUVs, for all our benefit. Maybe you could get her into a Lamborghini Urus or a Porsche Cayenne?

Won’t get a better head turner at that price. Buy it, run it till the engine catches fire and swap out the engine with a good ol LS and have yourself a reliable daily driver.

You don’t need to be a Mercedes mechanic- just know something about wrenching. Worst case scenario it’s time for an LS swap. 

I don’t have any conclusive answers but I do remember reading a business case about the Smart car that might be relevant. (This is all old memories so some details are bound to be incorrect)
