If you are going to write about serious subjects, you need to get feedback from the people that those subjects effect; without that feedback you’re going to end up with something as problematic as what McDonagh wrote.

There is a difference between being a populist and acknowledging criticism over harmful portrayals of people and subjects.

Except the anger over the film IS about the film. It is not anger over racism and police brutality displaced onto the film because they can’t put their anger anywhere else, it is solely about the issues of the film and how it handles racism and police brutality.

You mean the guy that actively listened to his audience and changed characters and situations based on what his audience said? The guy that wrote one of the most grotesquely anti-Semitic characters in history and who after he was criticized for it changed how he wrote the character and how he wrote Jewish people in

The character is definitely what a white guy who thinks he’s writing about racism in a nuanced way thinks is a complex character.

If he isn’t redeemed by the end maybe don’t frame the character using entirely sympathetic devices for the last half of the movie. There is a disconnect between what McDonagh thought he was making and what he actually made. God, every character who had once hated the man by the end of the film is ready to be his

I love the comments of people complaining about the comments of people complaining.

The character isn’t redeemed, but the film very much acts like it redeemed him.

At least we’ll always have that Djinn sex scene.

Actually I just realized that I’m using the extension called “Kinjamprove”, that is what lets me block people.

You did some nice skipping of logic and truth there

Hover over a person’s comment and click the three dots to the right. You can block a person from there. If they reply to your comment, though, apparently you still get a notification.

It’s obvious at this point that you don’t care about gay people. You should look up the countless instances of violence against gay people in Russia and Chechnya, all in the name of Not Islam. Peace out. Blocked.

ALL OF THEM ARE A PROBLEM RIGHT NOW, ALL HOMOPHOBIA IS ALWAYS A PROBLEM

Religious and political indoctrination is a rough thing to shake, but enough people from every religion and culture are breaking free from it that I won’t criticize an entire religion or country. People are learning to adapt and reinterpret religious texts to a modern standard of society, or to simply reject parts of

Islamic homophobia. Christian homophobia. Catholic homophobia. Jewish homophobia. Atheist homophobia. Liberal homophobia. Republican homophobia. Every ideology and religion on this planet has its homophobic side, with its defenders of emotional and/or physical violence against gay people. To signal out as you did in

It’s amazing what white people forcing their views on foreign countries did, and now that white countries are changing faster than the foreign countries are that means the foreign countries are the bad guys that need to get with the picture. Also, it is amazing how we can criticize individuals without criticizing an

That’s the gayest video I’ve ever seen outside of porn, so I’m definitely on board.

Yes, I agree, it is nonsense that you are projecting your own agenda and history onto the novel to deny the characters’ bisexuality.

I don’t think it is always obvious. I don’t think the projection that adults do manifests itself in the same way it does with children, like how children will say outright “I am Iron Man! Watch me defeat the bad guys and get the girl!”. I think with adults it is more subtle.
