It’s not on customers to know everything about the company they do business with. It’s entirely on management to not tolerate this kind of thing. Blaming consumers for not boycotting takes away the responsibility from management.

Getting them committed would greatly reduce their ability to spread their bullshit. As we’ve seen, that works in combating disinformation spread.
