Did you not have traction control on or is it just that bad? I have a comparably stupid car (e39 M5) with winter tires and don’t have nearly as many issues as you had. Even in deep CO snow, I don’t have those kind of problems.

Absolutely agree. Switching from all-seasons to winters in my Forester is noticeable instantly. Sliding stops, even on the same road, with a 10 minute difference from changing wheels. You can practically launch with snows in an AWD car, in snow.
