Well, if it’s only in Australia (or Southern hemisphere, for that matter) then it’s not global by definition. Which makes your attempt at being funny even lamer.

I think it’s a bit more complicated that just a weird thought experiment. The problem here lies in the fact that the human eye has the ability to adjust its perception of colors in order to compensate for variations in lighting conditions whereas the equipment capturing the pictures doesn’t have it and captures

I would say that in addition to the factors mentioned in the text (snow cover reflecting heat better than bare ground, and difference in moisture content), there is one more that is quite obvious - exposure to cold air masses moving from the north (north is generally colder, and it’s got much, much more snow meaning
