If they’re being driven on the street why would they necessarily need to be up to track spec? I’m not saying people won’t drive them fast, I’m just not sure its the rental companies responsibility to enable the behavior.

Nothing you said changed my point about ageing/2nd owner Hondas and Toyotas being just as prone to breaking as any other car.

Toyota and Hondas require just as much maintenance and break just as often as other cars. The owners of Toyotas and Hondas however are less likely to notice something broken or to care enough to fix it/ get it fixed.
