Nope, which is why the techs would prefer to be paid by time invested into the repair as opposed to book times.

If anyone is tasting shoe right now, it’s not me.

Star for A Clockwork Orange reference.

Most of these technicians are getting raked over the coals by SnapOn/Mac/Matco truck finance, but they can’t work without the tools, so it’s a catch 22. Does your employer provide you with the equipment necessary to do your job, or do you have to buy your own PC/Desk/Chair/etc for whatever you do? New software comes

Christ, you got out at the right time, 2000 was kind of the swansong for the collision repair industry.

No worries :)

The dealer sets the labor rates & charges, not the mechanic.

20 years in body shops, can confirm.

Huh?

Hell, he’ll take credit for creating two jobs: the one dipshit here was fired from, and the new job he supposedly already has! MAGA! /wrists

They can, however, feel free to stop reproducing and breathing.

Provided they never come back, I couldn’t care less.

Well done, David (both coordinating the ride for your Opa and the article).

Labor is often one of the highest shop expenses. Anything to stiff a tenth out of a tech, from a double-ticketing shop owner, to a short-ticketing insurance shill, even a manufacturer on “warranty time and rate” (that one always gets me).

Yuuup. The old adage “don’t let ‘em know you’re good at digging ditches, they’ll just get you a bigger shovel” kinda rings true.

You’re spot on, and I wish it was that way here. Some of the differences in “general practices” of labor treatment are astounding.

You’d almost hope that the manufacturer(s) would try to yank their franchisees in line over some antics like that, but sadly, they won’t.
