Yeah I guess the prices are relative to what each market is willing to pay in terms of what segment it's intended for, especially considering that the i3 is, like you said, more of a fashion car than anything else (which can be applied to the Model S in some regards).
This is great and all, but until cars like the Tesla or the i3 start to make their way into the low $30,000 or into the mid $20,000 range (that aren't the leaf), my eyes will just continue to glaze over every time I hear about them.
Well why would they do that, when they can release cars/content over an extended period of time and make a butt load of money? Rather than giving a complete product, but still charge the same amount for said lack luster product.
