I believe the ninth lane is just for the straight. It’s eight lanes around the rest of the track.

Well, it wouldn’t be a Fittish piece if there weren’t multiple mistakes and misunderstandings of the sport.

I would have thought that about Sochi.

So, if someone finishes third in the trials (imagine it’s a slow distance race - tactical - where the strategy is more important than time) and already had the Olympic standard from earlier in the season, you feel that they should be denied the opportunity to compete in the Olympics just because someone else ran a

I see what you’re saying, although I would imagine that Brooks would have to also post a picture of Ashton Eaton, a Nike athlete, after the picture of Taiwo, a Brooks athlete, to be considered reporting in the public interest.

It seems like that as Phil Knight has taken more and more of a backseat role in Nike, they have become more and more like this.

That’s not the issue, though. It’s a business using it as advertising. As stupid as it is, the IOC and USOC only care if Brooks, New Balance, etc. post, not if you use a hashtag a million times.

I think the difficulty is when “reporting” becomes “advertising”. Really, Brooks’ picture of Jeremy Taiwo is probably both but I would contend it is closer to advertising. Now, if Fittish/Deadspin are posting it, there are no lawsuits as it is reporting.

It’s probably too much to ask that Fittish reporting be 100 percent accurate.

Interesting that last night Lear finished literally last in the first round of the 1500m. Maybe, like Nick Symmonds, the grumbling and belly aching gets stronger as Lear gets slower.

I just hope someone teaches him to read contracts.

If you’re going to cover track and field, at least get the name of the best facility in the country right. Hayward Field is going to host the 2021 World Championships. Not knowing its name is embarrassing.
