I understand why JP2 left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. We've been down that road a million times. But people HATE that fucking movie.

This game. I don't have much patience for anime or JRPG bullshit, but this game is truly amazing. And it achieves that by doing so many tiny things perfectly. Batting practice, studying, making coffee and then get judged for the quality of your brew by an old grumpy coffee snob.

I think people hate the thing because it's so shiny and polished - while trying so damned hard to be gritty and rough. Whether that's a truly unforgivable cinematic sin, I don't know. He carried it on to his other superhero movies, and sank to abysmal depths. SS and Batman were objectively shit movies.
