“Yet preseason, Vegas had OKC’s win O/U at 45.5. Houston’s at 41.5.”
Houston’s going to win 8-10 more games than OKC and get busted out of the playoffs by San Antonio or Golden State. They’re not contenders. The “best player, best team” argument doesn’t apply here.
Good observation but in Tennis fatigue plays a serious role in the decision making process, and Roger’s career is still thriving because of his ability to control his opponent’s fatigue (in part, may other reasons obviously)
Not a dumb question at all!
Cop impersonates an ice agent. And the immigrant fucks him up?
We are in the Upside Down.
Agree with others, based on the height of the ball and where he is on the court, he really has no other choice but to his the ball cross court and over the lowest point of the net. And at the end of the day he did well with it, firing one right at Fed’s shoelaces. Digging that half volley might have been the toughest…
thing is, Federer and most other top professionals are constantly anticipating their opponents’ next shots based on percentages of probability and their specific experience paying against a given player. so, they make educated guesses about which way the next shot will go, and even if every once in a while they get…
He could very well have overthought it and guess that Fed was going to make a break for the open court. In that scenario, he thought he was going behind Roger.
Also hard to keep your eye on where your opponent is standing and where the ball is at the same time. Sometimes you just guess, and guess incorrectly.
Most top 10 players probably would have hit it up the line there like you suggest. It’s a somewhat tougher shot than going cross-court, since going up the line that close to the net requires even more topspin to clear the net without flying out of bounds, but in hindsight probably was the right play.
Yeah, I think RBA thought that Fed would be sprinting to that open area to Fed’s left, when in fact, Fed either saw RBA peek to where he wanted to hit it or guessed that he would try to hit it back to where he was, given that there was so much room to Fed’s left.
Or he just mis-hit.
I imagine that he thought Roger would be coming across the court to take away the obvious shot down the line, so he tried to wrong-foot him.
Hitting that shot down the line for a winner is not impossible, but really damned tough. The ball is very low, and RBA uses an extreme forehand grip (which generates a lot of topspin, but is really hard to make good contact on low balls). Also, the geometry does not work in his favor. He is close to the net, has to…
Nope sorry, every one of those cars is illegal because they contain defeat devices which are illegal.
Dude, they cheated. The gov’t test is to simulate real world driving.
If they’re looking for an unoccupied space that’s hosted bowls, how about Mark Davis’ head?
Nice guys generalize women as being the problem for why they can’t find a stable relationship?
Fedora used “pity!”
You forgot to tip your trilby, sir.
