I feel similarly about the +/- buttons on the Nintendo Switch controller. When I give them to non-gamers to play Mario Kart they never know what I’m talking about until I show them the buttons explicitly. Bit overdesigned.

Awful block was great. Really enjoyed the Alcatraz game, too. Had never heard of Mr. Bones before this, but I was really impressed by what this game from 1996 was able to accomplish. Extremely cool run for an extremely cool game.

I prefer the crowd. I think it’s fine for speedrunners to drop “bad” runs. It isn’t an event about world records. Occasionally you get somebody really off their game and it turns a bit awkward but I’m willing to take the tradeoff.

I think it’s a valid critique in that the world is made a servant to the game rather than the game a servant to the world. It all depends on what you want, but for somebody desiring an immersive world it absolutely comes up short.
