Thank you for actual numbers! Even if estimated. So it sounds like we’re changing out four 8-pounds springs for four 2-pound springs, ideally, for a total savings of 32 - 8 = 24 pounds. For the average passenger vehicle of a bit over 4,000 pounds in the U.S. today, that’s about half a percent.
You’ve touched on a “hard rule” that Stephen Johnson seems to have missed:

For folks who didn’t follow the link to Dennis’s hilarious article about egg devices, I’ll post this excerpt (which, along with the description of the device, is a literal LOL):
Ditto. Though more for Kari Matchett and Peter Gallagher than the actors mentioned.
Yup. $20k more than the average selling price on BaT, and $5k more than a 2007 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG wagon has ever sold for on BaT.
This won’t work with the federal government, of all places. When I applied for my current position in a federal research lab, with a CV that included a Ph.D., they required a transcript from a decade earlier to show I’d really graduated with a B.S. Sheesh.
A lot of honorary doctorates seem to be awarded to rich and famous people in exchange for giving a speech at a graduation ceremony. It’s a pretty transparent quid pro quo.
Clinicians don’t use the term “retarded”; it’s now considered dated and offensive.

Maybe I’m just old, but in my day if someone had figured out a scheme that seemed too good to be true, they didn’t go publicizing it to the general public since that’s how you get whatever loophole you’re using closed.
