I think there are distinctions to be made between brands that were once solid, even great, but have lost it (Alfa, BMW, Buick), those that were and are perfectly fine but are diluted or superfluous (Ram), and those that would make the world a better place if they’d never existed (Elio).
Unsurprisingly, a number of existing American companies profited from the slave trade, though we have to go a bit further back. History is grim.

For me, personally, fast food is a matter of convenience (the “fast” or perhaps easy part) rather than cost, so I think it would have to get pretty expensive before I’d think, “I should pack a lunch/make dinner at home.” I’ve gotten take-away from food trucks in the $25-$30 range, so maybe $30 would be the threshold?
