Wow. I hadn’t heard that story.
I’m waiting for a state court to deal with a case in which a protestor pulls a weapon and stands his ground against a driver coming toward him under one of these new laws.
Right, I was half-kidding. (That is, I knew the high beams were rude, but I didn’t know they were illegal.) I remember as well, from working in Germany for a few years, in the ancient days of 1986-91. One thing I liked is just as you say: there are expectations, and most people follow them. That made things more…
German driving forbids passing on the right. You wait. And wait. And perhaps turn on your left indicator to show your desire to pass the slower vehicle in the left lane.
LOL. I used to love Speed Racer when I was a kid, though I know nothing about real racing.
Thanks for the pointer, Mercedes! The Hemmings link is well worth a click, for more history and photos of Brooks Stevens’s work.
To the letter-writer: I’m sorry. Good luck.
Everyone should have a passion.
Nice find!
The widow of the man who died after being struck by the South Dakota attorney general’s car will file a wrongful death lawsuit, her attorneys said Friday.
Some years ago I saw a poll asking men whom they wish they looked like, with body types illustrated by movie actors. I don’t remember most of the actual actors except one, but think Henry Cavill (as Superman) at one end of the spectrum, Tom Hiddleston (as Loki) at the other. Surprise! Brad Pitt in his Fight Club…

To address this situation, we have arrangements whereby healthier workers can donate their own sick leave to coworkers who have run out. I think of this as a typically American solution: the backstop for people in need of a safety net…
“You people condemning Cruz and ignoring Cuomo are total hypocrites!” say conservatives condemning Cuomo and defending Cruz.
Think he tried to get the plane to turn around when his staff noticed his escape had been spotted?
It may be doable!
I think Harris’s novels glorify evil. I don’t know if this is Harris’s doing or incidental. They’re not to my taste—any longer, at least; I’ve read the all of the novels that include Lecter—and I lean toward the argument that this glorification makes them bad novels.
Excellent. I’ve worked with German engineers, in Germany. They have the reputation for over-engineering products, which can be annoying but also rewarding.
I’m thinking if the course isn’t completely enclosed, the record would be not much different from top speed in an ordinary road tunnel.
I’m also not seeing a lot that’s different from the “ordinary” S-class aside from the grille and the intakes. They do ruin the look, but it’s also a pretty easy fix.
