Thanks for telling your story. My wife and I used to have a few favorite restaurants, until she became too sick to go out. When the people at those places remembered, and asked about her, it was a special thing. It was as though the world wasn’t so terrible for a short moment.

Conspicuous consumption doesn’t get a pass, even if it’s only publicized via Youtube.

Fourteen-year-olds tend to be that way.

It is! I’m guessing the driver was English, or British, or from a Commonwealth country... (What the hell, all I’m guessing is that he speaks English and isn’t American.)

From the insightful responses to your comment, it seems clear that nothing will change in the foreseeable future. Sigh.

It was quite telling when after a long conversation with Kosh I couldn’t get him to provide a reason for why he thinks I shouldn’t be allowed to own an RPG...

ETA: “...any solution other than gun control...” Goddamn you are just the dumbest motherfucker on this site.

That, or a car that’s been kidnapped by aliens and... modified.  The blue glow from the cockpit is a little unsettling.

Hey, the Olive Garden has a nutrition page!

I believe you about murder rates. But take a look at the question posed in the title of the article: Why Does Violence in Chicago Attract So Much Attention, Even Though It’s Not the Murder Capital of The U.S.?

Kid behind you in 2nd grade hitting you with spitballs? That’s battery. Biscuit could be fresh from the oven and deliciously soft. Still battery.

The distribution of IQ scores is roughly symmetrical, commonly approximated by a Gaussian, so it’s an okay rule of thumb in this case.

How cool to have a father who is a globally renowned expert in alternative dispute resolution.

I’m not a lawyer, but that’s what I gathered from reading online (i.e. Google, which is sad, but...) Anyway, I hope people pay attention to your comment, rather than those saying that fighting words are a legal justification for violence. It’s not that way! For good (and obvious) reason!

Thanks for the info. I was a little surprised by the “dominate our highways” line.  My daily commute is 20 miles along I-95, but like others I’ve never seen a triple.

Excellent. Great writing for the topic as well.

    You eat very small portions.

Eh. Some people run fast or for long distances; other people accumulate manufactured collectables; other people study esoterica of little use to anyone... They’re all celebrated by their in-groups, even though their accomplishments are meaningless in the broader world. It’s mostly harmless.

I don’t think of it as cooking, but on the other hand, when I don’t want to spend an hour simmering a sauce, the solution typically isn’t to have started marinating vegetables several hours earlier, even the day before.
